Assisted suicide legislation is wrong for Michigan.
The Michigan Senate is preparing to hold a hearing on a package of reckless bills (SBs 678–681) that would legalize physician-assisted suicide in Michigan and could create a nightmare climate for people with long-term illnesses or disabilities.
The bills invite bad actors to influence vulnerable people into ending their lives.
They also incentivize insurance companies to favor coverage of cheaper, life-ending drugs over life-saving or palliative care.
Advocates for these measures routinely work to extend assisted suicide eligibility beyond terminal conditions to include people with physical disabilities, mental illness, or poor financial prospects.
